Hi Rich Fans,

This first post is an older one that I forgot to pass along in relation to our greatist hits list (see [RichMailList 64]: Results: Rich Top 20 Survey) and the discussion of Rich's appearance on other recordings as a writer (see [RichMailList 60]: Rich writing for others)

Hi Danl.

Thanks for all the updates and your faithfulness with this list. I
especially enjoyed your greatest hits list. My sister and I have had fun
comparing it with our personal "Rich's Greatest Hits" tape which we created
back in the fall of 1993. (Ours, of course, does not contain anything from
"Brother's Keeper," but it does contain Jacob and 2 Women and Boy Like Me/Man
Like You, two of our favorites.) Anyway, I was thinking about your search
for songs written by Rich and recorded by others, and wondered if you'd ever
heard this song, written by someone else and recorded by Rich: You Are The
One by Keith Green, on the No Compromise: Remembering Keith Green CD. That
one did make it on our Greatest Hits tape, it's a great tune. It seems to
fit Rich's style and personality. But then Keith was another man like Rich,
powerfully used by God.

Thanks again,

Molly

They're still advertising Rich Mullins' participation in the event. Found it interesting. Wonder what they'll tell all the people who show up just to hear him? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kathie Scott csmks@ux1.cts.eiu.edu Charleston, IL They don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

If anyone is going to WorldFest II, please let us know if Rich shows up. See the Tour Page for info about Rich supposedly not playing at WorldFest, August 10, yet he is advertised as doing so.

From: Penny Ward To: scatcat@kidbrothers.net (Danl Blackwood) Date: Fri, 26 Jul 1996 11:44:56 Subject: Questions/Comments Hi all :) Just wondering, if this list has any influence or could get word to Rich's agent, etc., what would be the prospects of him possibly doing an accoustic album, similar to his tour this past year. Just clean and simple. I've heard several complaints that the greatest hits album is just too over-produced. And too many commerical hits. I think it would be great if he could do something like the tour, just him and a few others on acoustic instruments doing his favorite tunes. What do you think? Pax, Penny

Hi Penny,
It's not likely that we as a list can make much difference, but as individuals we can certainly try. Here is Rich's manager, Gay Quisenberry's address so you can write and request such an album. I for one would buy it a heartbeat. By the way, this is also the address to write to Rich.

I've been sitting here jealously listening to everyone review _Songs_ but have had to be content with that because for some looney reason we in Canada have to wait about a month after the U.S. release dates before new releases are available in Canada (despite the fact that where I live is literally within gunshot of Detroit, MI)--sigh! Just thought I'd share my misery with someone, while I wait, and wait... Great job on the mailing list, thanks for all the work you're doing! The Brother's Keeper video you mentioned in RichMailList 78 appears on the _Reunion Records Presents...Video You Can Believe In_ video (1996 Arista Records). This collection features 7 other artists as well. Also in the last mailing, Steve Harris wrote of his search for Christian Celtic music. Hi Wayne,
Don't have anything from that specific concert, but I saw him in Tulsa just a couple weeks later, and I wrote a review of that concert (including set list). You can find it at [RichMailList 50]: Rich in Tulsa

Haven't heard of any. Maybe someone on the list has. Anyone?

Remember that _Music You Can Believe In_ sampler that Reunion released last year? Well, this year, they released a Volume 2, and at the same time, they released a _Video You Can Believe In_ which includes "Brother's Keeper". It was only about $5 (US). Just for completeness, here's the line-up (in order) on that video: Wes King "Life Is Precious" Carolyn Arends "Seize the Day" Clay Crosse "The Rock (That Was Rolled Away)" Kathy Troccoli "Go Light Your World" Michael W. Smith "Cry For Love" Church of Rhythm "I Still Believe" Rich Mullins "Brother's Keeper" Joanna Carlson "The Light of Home" Victor Hinojosa wrote in #78: > And I simply haven't been able to catch all the lyrics to the new > long version of Screendoor. If you have those I sure would love > them. I guess I'm just a little too slow to figure them all out!! Well, I've listened to this tune about 100 times. I could probably do this from memory, but I'll check against the tape: Screen Door It's about as useless as a screen door on a submarine Faith without works, baby, it just ain't hapennin' One is your left hand, one is your right It'll take two strong arms, mmm hmm, to hold on tight Some folks'll cut off their nose just to spite their face I think you need some works to show for your alleged faith Well, there's a difference you know, 'tween havin' faith and playin' make-believe One will make you grow, the other one just make you sleep Talk about it, but I really think you oughta Take a leap off of the ship before you claim to walk on water Faith without works, like a song you can't sing It's about as useless as a screen door on a submarine Faith comes from God and every word that He breathes He lets you take it to your heart so you can give it hands and feet It's gotta be active if it's gonna be alive You gotta put it into practice (dit dit dit dit dit) otherwise.... It's about as useless as a screen door on a submarine Faith without works, baby, it just ain't hapennin' One is your right hand, one is your left It's your light, your guide, your life and your breath Faith without works, like a song you can't sing It's about as useless as a screen door on a submarine Faith without works, like a song you can't sing It's about as useless as a screen door on a submarine Thanks, Brendt

Date: Fri, 2 Aug 1996 14:21:16 From: Brian William To: Danl Blackwood Subject: Re: [RichMailList 76]: Comments on _Songs_ Well, I finally got my copy of Songs. The local cbs messed up their order, and never got it. They probably never would have gotten it if I hadn't bugged them about it. But it just reminded me why I never go in there if I can help it (a new Rich release is definately an exception! :->). And then after the big wait, I'm *very* disapointed. We Are Not as Strong is good. The new Sing Your Praise to the Lord starts alright with the dulcimer, but then goes downhill from there. Bridge sung *much* too fast. The Zion speed was more appropriate. And Elijah! YUCK!! It's what I would imagine a cheap rookie producer doing to Rich's music. Goofy synthesizers and cheesy background vocals. Blech. And the thing was that Reed Arvin was involved in it exactly the same as the other albums. Even the liner notes looked really "ccm-esque". Oh, well. Otherwise a nice selection of songs, especially for someone new to his music. I liked the mix, with a couple from every album. But still can't help missing a few: Growing Young, I'll Carry On, The Color Green for sure should have made it. But probably every fan on the planet is lamenting the exclusion of their favorite. :-> Oh, well. He mentioned last year in jest that releasing a greatest hits album was the only way that he could get the record company off his back. Now I wonder how serious he was really being. Hmmm. *Brian
