hi danl. i went to the joplin concert last night and will share some
thoughts.

The concert basically followed the same pattern as previous reviews. The
church wasn't that big and people were standing in line waiting for tickets.
It wasn't few sure if everyone would fit.

Mitch McVicker started off the concert with his set of about 5 songs. He did
The Lemonade Song, Only His Love Will, Freedom, and two others which I can't
remember the names. They all had a different sound but centered around the
"love" theme. He said love is what holds the big ball of "stuff" together
like faith, hope, peace...He said all his songs centered around love. He is
very humble in spirit. Rich called him an upcoming musical talent. He played
several different instruments. He will be going into the studio after the
tour for about a month to record his album. Then Eric, the cello guy, and he
will be traveling to various colleges for 6 weeks helping them perform the
Canticle musical and performing some stuff.

Everyone then came on to do some of Rich's classic songs and some of his
favorite songs he didn't write. It was amazing how everyone keep switching
to a different instrument. They all were versatile in playing. Rich forgot
the words to Awesome God at the beginning of the concert. He just stood
there playing and looking at Mitch. Mitch was laughing and Rich just made
this face like "oops". It was comical. I have never been to a Rich concert
where he didn't forget the words to at least one song. It seems to be his
trademark or something.

They did "Screendoor on a Submarine" with the cups. It was very neat. Like I
said, the concert was basically the same. This Train rocked the place with
about 4 songs. Everyone loved the Monster Truck love song. They have a very
unique sound.

Towards the end of the concert, Rich shared some thoughts. He spoke of
"loving God is being obedient" to Him not all the other stuff. It was very
moving. He cried as he shared a personal experience about being honest with
his friends about some of the stuff he had done in the past (years ago). He
is an incredible person to learn from. By the time he was done speaking, I
was so motivated to just do everything possible to be obedient to God. He
talked a lot about serving the poor and helping others and just a little
compassion goes such a long way. It was awesome. I would recommend anyone
attending a Rich concert, even if you don't care for the music that much,
but just to listen to Rich share his thoughts and profound statements.

All of the Canticle cds were sold out. Also, Rich did say that the
Ragamuffins would be getting together soon (i think he said may-be at
beginning of 1998) to do another album.
