Subject: Review of Columbus, OH

I went to see Rich in Columbus, OH, on Friday, January 24, 1997. I
really enjoyed the concert. It was just Rich and Mitch... It started on
time with a local group singing from 8:00pm to 8:30pm. Then Rich was
introduced. Here's the Set List from the concert, then I will have a
few notes about the concert.

Instrument Legend:

    R = Rich
    M = Mitch
    G = Guitar
    P = Piano
    M = Mandolin
    * = Wasn't On Stage During This Song

Rich walked out after being introduced. He then informed us that he
would not be teaching. He then said that he would teach us the history
of christian music. He split the audience up into 3 parts. Two
Sections was supposed to sit down while the other one sung. One Section
sung Hallalu, the next section Ugh, and the last section Praise Ye The
Lord... He done that twice, then for the third he made the two sections
stand up, and the section singing to sit down. He also split us up for
the next song. One section sung I'm Gonna Sing, Sing Sing, while the
next sung Sing Low, and the last one sung When The Saints -- All at
once. Rich forgot the words to the second verse of Brother's Keeper
when it came to the part that said "...there's no point in pointing
finger's". He told the 1st part of the "Irish Sweater Story" before Are
You Ready For The Storm, then told the last part before Sometimes By
Step. He said that he didn't write Are You Ready For The Storm, but
wished he did. He then said that they needed to turn Mitch up in his
monitor, "Not Because It's Enjoyable, but because it's almost
Necessary". Mitch then said to turn him up in his too, as he was being
overwelmed by Rich, to which Rich replyed "That's easy when you are on
stage with me". One thing I noticed, is that while playing If I Stand
on the Grand Piano, he had his legs crossed. He had a can of Diet Coke
in his hand most of the time he was onstage, and once he had to sit down
and tie his shoes. A couple odd things was that he never took an
intermission, never mentioned compassion, never mentioned his musical,
and didn't have the CD's of his musical at the tape stand. I stayed
around after the concert to get a picture with Rich. I really enjoyed
the concert. I like the Ragamuffin's, but thought that it was really
cool hearing him 'unplugged'. The music sounded SO much different and
fuller.

From: Ray Mullins Subject: January 24th concert in Westerville Date: Thu, 30 Jan 97 17:52:00 EST Hello Danl and Rich fans, I would like to share with you my personal perspective on Rich's concert held on January 24th at Westerville, OH. I'm Rich's cousin and we grew up about 20 miles apart in Indiana. I've been blessed to see Rich perform many times over the years, in many different settings. This concert was my favorite type of show. When Rich performs without a band it gives him the opportunity to interact more intimately with the audience, which is one of the things he enjoys most about performing. Rich started this concert with the audience singing a round of "Praise ye the Lord" and ended with us singing a nice medley of hymns. In between was Rich at his best, entertaining us with his gifts of music, and humor, and touching us with his love for the Lord. Many people have commented about how open and honest Rich is when they see him. They are very perceptive, because with Rich what you see is what you get. It is very refreshing and uplifting to actually be able to see into someone's soul and find Christ. One thing I have learned by getting to know Rich and seeing him perform over the years, is that we shouldn't try to hide who we are, we are sinners, we are children of God, and God loves us just the way we are. Your in Christ, Ray Mullins rmullins@tcpost1.lof.com
