Subject: review of Rich Mullins Sat 14 June concert in Southaven, MS (near Memphis)

Well, it was my very first time to see Rich in concert What a show! I have
never really enjoyed a concert like I did this one. The show opened after MANY
announcements (that's how they do stuff here in Memphis area) and Mitch
McVickar (sp?) came out and sang a few Mullinsesque songs and attempted to make
deep conversation in between--i wasn't particularly impressed by that--when he
was singing with Rich and this train, he seemed to fit in a little better.
. Finally Rich came out--(i didn't know to look to see if he had shoes on) and
he began with Awesome God, 78 Eatonwood green, boy like me man like you,
etc..the whistle thing happened in Memphis too ( we call southaven, MS
"Memphissippi")--he was going to whistle himself but couldn't, he played Ready
for the storm and told the story about irish women, atlantic ocean, and
sweaters--we all laughed pretty well at that, he closed the first set with
everywhere i go, i see you.
After the break he intro'd this train...a really funny band--they sang
ballads (wink wink) to beloved TV hero (second only to Jesus Christ) Fred
Rogers, MOnster Truck, and an old hymn whose name escapes me at this point.
When Rich finally came back they did the cup thing and screen door, praise to
the Lord, and many other favorites. The concert ended out with having the
crowd sing the Doxology.
It was truly a great concert, i was especially amazed by the humility
and realness of Rich Mullins...his music has always been a blessing to me--it
is as though Rich puts into words reality, you know? when you hear the lyrics
you are able to understand a feeling you have had but not been able to give
words to it. I was also particularly interested in how they produced the
percussive and not so percussive sounds i had been hearing all these 10
years--the drumstick thing during 78 Eatonwood Green was pretty cool, as well
as the famous cup thing..
Overall, it was the best concert i had ever attended. i am thankful to have had
the opportunity.

-blessings
