Rich Mullins on Light 99 FM
Morning Show, 18 Apr 95

Rich joined Kathy Sanders and Craig West on the Kathy and Craig Show (Light 99 FM Morning Drive Time Show), yesterday morning (4/18). I tuned in expecting information on the upcoming tour, but what I got was a zany-as-ususal morning show. Craig and Kathy do some pretty crazy stuff; like having someone sing Happy Birthday on their cellular phone at a drive-up window to a Birthday Person; all on the air. They're wild and zany antics are in addition to the regular Morning Mystery Oldie and the Brain Buster Trivia segments. I've won some cool prizes on these listener-participation-call-in contests like discounted or free items from local advertisers.

Rich was in a real crazy mood, like he sometimes gets when he's not "on stage". Rich got to talking about having post nasal drip, and Craig (who is a genuine comedian) made a crack "hey we can call Dr. Randy and talk about post nasal drip. I thought we were going to talk about music. Hey, you could call you're band Rich Mullins and the Ragamuffin Post Nasal Drip Band." Rich was there for a couple hours, just kinda visiting every once in a while in between songs. After the new song by John Gibson called "Jesus", Craig says, "That was John Gibson and 'Jesus'", and Rich immediately responds, "John Gibson and Jesus!? How'd he rate that? I just get to sing with Beaker, and he gets to sing with Jesus?!" It was pretty funny stuff.

Along the lines of serious information...

The first half of the Farewell Concert (May 13th, Wichita) will be Rich and many of his classmates and acquaintances from Friends University, including (among other offerings) music and dance. Rich says they've been practicing for a while. The second half will be Rich and the Ragamuffins. All the original Ragamuffins will be there except Billy Crockett, however Billy will be in on the tour coming up this next fall. Craig mentioned that he'd never been to a Rich Mullins concert before (being a recent addition to the Light 99 FM staff from one of the hottest secular stations in town), but had heard that they are usually long concerts. Rich said, "Yeah, they're real long. People will age." :-)

Rich also mentioned how bad he felt that he didn't hold any comp (complimentary) tickets, because he never dreamed it would sell out in 8 hours. Anyway the bottom line was he was really ready to graduate, get moved to New Mexico, and do this tour next fall that will last into the following winter/spring. Still no solidified dates to announce. Right now he's not thinking about doing anymore recording. It doesn't mean he won't, he's just not going to worry about it right now. He says he much more enjoys performing and teaching than recording, but he *does* have an open recordng contract.

That's about all for now. The official interview with Kathy and Rich (that will appear in next month's MetroNews, Light 99 FM's newspaper) is possibly going to be included in the next Lighthouse issue on the Web. I'll keep you posted.

God Bless Your Day.
