Hi Rich fans,
A couple months ago we were talking about songs written by Rich and recorded by others. (See 04/02/96 [RichMailList 60]: Rich writing for others). Here's some followup from Marcy Nejat.
Hi. I don't know if it was previously mentioned in your collecting items that Rich wrote, but I was perusing some old vinyl last night and saw an original melody for the lyrics of "Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory" (if I remember correctly) on the same Benny Hester album which contains "The Day God Ran". (Now I forget the name of the album too--sheesh). But it was 1984. I got that. But I haven't heard it because I've got a bad habit of buying old vinyl at the Potter's House if it's in good shape, but I have no turntable. :-{ However, I'll get it on tape soon and then I'll listen. Music listed as: Richard Mullins. I guess that would be him, eh? MarcyThen I wrote...
>Cool! Can you get the album name for me?...and Marcy replied...
It's called Benny From Here.
Here's an interesting comment from Jim Neilssen about "Awesome God" and the survey. (in response to [RichMailList 66]).
[snip first part of message] How could anyone consider the proper order for a greatest hits album. I've changed my favorite song several times with Mr. Mullins. His stories evolve as does my faith. I have evolved well past the musical hook of Awesome God but while reading an article in the National Review supporting the intricacies of the universe and the anthropomorphic theory as proof FOR God's creation, well I'm reading the article about the difference 1,000,000th part per million of oxygen inthe universe 1,000,0000 years ago would have made and the hook of Awesome God starts rolling in my head. It was chills!!! OK Awesome God goes back to the top for the next 5 minutes. Then I hear another song. Look, Rich supports a mission. His number one song is the one that touches your heart in support of that mission. We fans sit here and blast Awesome God but which song of His brings more people to Christ? OK catch a paragraph..... Thank God Rich has enough songs that touch the lives of all that we can vote on our favorites. What a great universe. What an Awesome God. Go Danl. Jim
Marty Ruggles asks:
Does Rich have an e-mail address?
Rich doesn't have an email address. He seemed comfortable doing a live chat session on AOL last fall (see [RichMailList 32]: Rich on AOL 9/12). However, he doesn't own a computer, and really doesn't like computers (see [RichMailList 37]: Rich's concert in Eugene).
>Does Gay or Kay or whatever her name is (the girl who does his booking) help >you out with info?
No, Gay Quisenberry is a very difficult person to track down. Most of the inside info I get comes from a friend, Kathy Sanders, who has known Rich since the college days. See the following links for more info on Kathy:
>Did she move to New Mexico or did she stay in Wichita?
Gay still lives in Wichita (although she's rarely here), and, as well as managing Rich, has been spending a lot of her time booking and managing Jimmy A, and Ragamuffin bass player Mark Roberston's band, This Train.
>Also, I heard that the reservation that Rich lives on is near Rolling Rock - >is that what you have heard?
Close. I've not heard anything official. I'm assuming he desires to keep it confidential considering his passion for doing this new teaching gig right. The only detail I've seen (other than conflicting reports in print of his moving to New Mexico and Arizona) was in a newspaper article snailmailed to me by a member of the Rich Mullins Mailing List. The article was printed in the September 29, 1995 edition of the Eugene, Oregon newspaper The Register-Guard, and was about his upcoming performance on the Brother's Keeper Tour. The article, written by Paul Denison, says "Mullins received his bachelor's degree in music education from Friend's University in Wichita, Kansas, in May [1995], and plans to begin teaching Navajo children this fall at a mission school in Window Rock, Ariz."
That's all for now. Some cool reviews coming soon.
